Record Attendance for Trail Hike at Camp Robert Drake
Despite a persistent sprinkle last Saturday morning, the Cub Scout and Scouts BSA communities achieved a remarkable milestone at this year's Trail Tromp event held at Camp Robert Drake near Catlin. Organized by Illini Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, the annual Trail Tromp saw its highest turnout ever, with over 110 hikers braving the weather to explore the Onaquispasippi Trail, tracing the perimeter of the expansive 400-acre property.
Hailing from a dozen Scouting units across the nine-county Prairielands Council of Scouting America, scouts and leaders alike suited up in rain gear and mud boots to embrace the great outdoors amidst the gentle drizzle. This year's event was a testament to the spirit of adventure and community within the scouting fraternity.
A special thank you goes to Illini Lodge for organizing this spring's Trail Tromp, ensuring another successful and memorable outing for all participants.
Key to the event's success was Trail Advisor Chris Cole, whose leadership and dedication were pivotal in orchestrating the Trail Tromp operation. His interactive Leave No Trace activities not only enhanced the Cub Scouts' understanding of conservation principles in woodland settings but also underscored the importance of responsible outdoor practices.
The highlight of the trail journey included an impromptu rock-skipping session at Pebble Beach, adding an extra dash of excitement to the day's adventures. Additionally, Troop 1 Scouts made invaluable contributions by volunteering their time to repair switchbacks and clear brush along the trail, further enriching the hiking experience for all.
The Trail Tromp event stands as a shining example of camaraderie, stewardship, and the enduring spirit of scouting in the Prairielands Council. As we look forward to future adventures and growth within our scouting community, we celebrate the success of this year's record-breaking Trail Tromp!
