Atkins Forge: Forging a Legacy at Camp Drake

Last summer, Camp Drake unveiled a brand-new program area that quickly became a highlight for Scouts looking to craft something extraordinary—Atkins Forge. This one-of-a-kind experience provided Scouts the rare opportunity to earn the Metalworking Merit Badge in a hands-on, professional forge setting.

Throughout its first season, Atkins Forge saw Scouts dive into the world of metalworking, learning the art of forging, welding, and metal finishing under the guidance of skilled instructors. Whether shaping metal into functional tools or crafting decorative pieces, Scouts honed valuable skills that not only helped them complete their merit badge but also introduced them to a craft that has been practiced for centuries.

The enthusiasm and excitement from last year’s participants were undeniable. Scouts left with a sense of accomplishment, newfound abilities, and memorable experiences from working in an environment unlike any other in the Central Illinois scouting region.

Now, as we gear up for year two, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome another group of Scouts to Atkins Forge. This program area remains one of the few places in the region where Scouts can experience real metalworking techniques in a safe and engaging setting. With limited space available, we encourage Scouts to take advantage of this rare opportunity to forge their skills and create something lasting.

Don't miss out on the chance to be part of this incredible experience. Join us at Atkins Forge this summer and leave camp with more than just memories—leave with something you built with your own two hands!
